Series “Voluntary or voluntarily unfree?”

The debate about the concept of freedom is the essence of philosophy. If we take relative external freedom for granted, what does inner freedom mean?

Autonomy requires self-awareness and self-knowledge and the resulting duty to act for one’s own happiness and that of others. It is not a gift that comes with birth. Hard-won and easily lost, it requires courage and discipline in the daily struggle.

In my series, I use the narrative threads of the sculptures to shed light on the struggle for inner freedom and also the renunciation of it. Voluntary submission and willing dependence are phenomena that promise security and are by no means unpopular, as they seem at first glance.
